S Janet (Powers) Perry

HOLDEN – Janet Elizabeth (Powers) Perry, 86, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, in the Holden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, after an illness.

She was born and raised in Leominster, the daughter of Gurdon and Evelyn (Farquahar) Powers, in 1920. She was educated in the Leominster school system graduating Leominster High School in 1938 and Becker Junior College in 1939. She was one of the two original elementary school secretaries in Holden, a position she cherished for over 20 years, retiring in 1983.

Mrs. Perry is survived by her husband of 65 years, Walter E. Perry, Sr.; three sons and their wives, Walter E. Perry, Jr. and Camille (Methot) of Paxton, Allen F. Perry and Judith (Ham) of Holden and Bradford L. Perry and Diane (Granger) of Rutland; her six grandchildren, who provided her with nearly four decades of affection and joy, include Rochelle (Perry) Webb of Reading, Aimee (Perry) Crockett of Holden, Joshua Perry of Worcester, Melissa (Perry) Johnson of Paxton, Brendan Perry of Rutland and Cassandra (Perry) Herlihy of Worcester. She attended many of their school extra-curricular activities and was pleased to have witnessed all of their wedding festivities. At the time of her passing she was still trying to keep track of an expanding brood of ten great-grandchildren: Thomas and Steven Webb, Anna and Harrison Crockett, Kylie, Peyton, and Caden Perry, David and Lillian Johnson, and Ella Perry. She also leaves two sisters, Carol Rodgers of Land O’Lakes, FL and Betty Kinnard of Fallbrook, CA, and a brother, H. Bruce Goodwin II of Vancouver, WA, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Gurdon F. Powers, Jr. and Richard Goodwin. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Holden and was one of the few remaining members of the Virginia Hill/Raymond Street “Club”, a neighborhood social/service gathering. She enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting and crocheting and flower gardening.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Mrs. Perry will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 30, in the funeral home. Burial will be private in Grove Cemetery, Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gale Free Library, 23 Highland Street, Holden, MA 01520.
