PAXTON – Richard P. Morse, 90, of Mount View Drive, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 24, 2010.
His wife of 63 years, Ruth L. (Kovar) Morse, died on July 27th. He leaves two sons, Richard P. Morse, Jr. and his wife Linda of Princeton and David S. Morse and his wife Cynthia of Rutland; a daughter, Laurie J. Morse of Paxton; five grandchildren, Amy Peterson, Beth Szydlik, Ryan, Bryant and Derrick Morse; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Rogers of Waltham; and many nephews and nieces. A brother, Robert Morse, a sister, Betty Mattson, and a granddaughter, Jennifer Morse, predeceased him.
Mr. Morse was born on October 16, 1920 in Worcester, son of Robert H. and Carolyn (Nutter) Morse, and lived in Holden for many years before moving to Paxton in 1974. He was a 1938 graduate of North High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving as a Master Sergeant in the Signal Corps.
He was co-owner of Morse Brothers Electric Co., retiring in 1983. After retirement, he and his wife, Ruth, spent many winters in Florida at their winter home. He was a 7-year member of the Board of Engineers at the Holden Fire Department. An avid golfer, he was a 15-year member of Worcester Country Club. He was an instrument rated pilot and enjoyed deep sea fishing and riding his motorcycle.
A private graveside service will be held at Grove Cemetery, Holden, at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Paxton Fire Department, First Responders, 576 Pleasant Street, Paxton, MA 01612. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
