Roger P. Jones

HOLDEN/AUBURN – Roger P. Jones, 68, of Auburn, died Monday, March 10, 2008 in his daughter's home, after a long battle with cancer.

His wife of 18 years, Cynthia (Sperl) Jones, died in 1983. He leaves his daughter, Priscilla J. Welch of South Windsor, CT; two grandchildren, Lindsey and Evan Welch; and his significant other, Janice Strout. His son, Owen S. Jones, died in 1994. He was born in Worcester, son of Earl and Laura M. (Pond) Jones, and lived in Holden before moving to Auburn six years ago.

Mr. Jones received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Northeastern University in Boston and his Master's degree in Education from Worcester State College. He taught computer science for the City of Worcester School District for many years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Northeast Trailer Sailors and the Green Mountain Club.

Relatives and friends are invited to a calling hour from 5 to 6 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 13th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will be private in Evergreen Cemetery, Hopkinton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wildlands Fund, c/o Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife, 1 Rabbit Hill Road, Westborough, MA 01581.
