S Kathleen P. (Irwin) Turner Thomas

HOLDEN - Kathleen P. (Irwin) Turner Thomas, 87, formerly of Rumson, NJ, died peacefully on Monday, December 7, 2009 in Knollwood Nursing Center.
Her husband, Henry H. Thomas died in 2006. She leaves two daughters, Ann K. Paterno of Holden and Elizabeth T. LaVergne and her husband Gil of Holden; two sons, Edward H. Turner, Jr. of San Francisco and David I. Turner of Merchantville, NJ; a granddaughter, Emily A. LaVergne of Manchester, NH; three stepchildren and eight step-grandchildren. Her first husband, Edward H. Turner died in 1996. She was born in Waterloo, Iowa the daughter of Clarence and Helen (Smith) Irwin and lived forty years in Rumson, NJ before moving here in 2007.
Mrs. Thomas graduated from the University of Iowa with a BFA in art and Rutgers University with an MA in art. She was an art teacher in the Middletown Township, NJ schools. Previously, she worked as a commercial artist in advertising and for Walter Dorwin Teague, an industrial designer in New York City.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Little Silver, NJ. She also was a member of the Art Alliance, Guild of Creative Art, Monmouth Arts Foundation and the American Association of University Women.
Mrs. Thomas' family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Knollwood Nursing Center in Worcester for the wonderful care and compassion they showed Kathleen throughout her stay.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19th in the Chaffin Congregational Church, 155 Shrewsbury Street, Holden. Additionally, a memorial service will be held in New Jersey at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16th in St. John's Episcopal Church, 325 Little Silver Point Road, Little Silver, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Holden Nursing Home Activities Account, 32 Mayo Drive, Holden, MA 01520. Memorial arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden.
