HOLDEN – Phyllis F. (Reed) Watson, 97, of Holden, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Holden Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Walter Watson, who died in February, 2004.
Born July 26, 1915 in Worcester, the daughter of Merton and Annie (Lassey) Reed, she graduated from Commerce High School and attended Becker Junior College. Phyllis was a full time homemaker and mom. During her retirement to Florida, she was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida and filled her retirement years as a volunteer in the community. She served on various committees at the Calvary Church for over 25 years and was a past Worthy Matron of The Clement Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She had a passion for music and enjoyed playing the organ. Some of her other talents included crocheting, knitting and flower arranging.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Gail and her husband Skeels Thompson with whom she resided for the past nine years; two sons, Richard R. Watson of Holden and William R. Watson and his wife Barbarita of Canada; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Thompson and his wife Jennifer, Scott Thompson and his wife Pamela, Todd Thompson and his wife Emily, Robyn Lawrence and her husband William, Allan Watson and his wife Heather and Alyson Watson; twelve great-grandchildren, Michelle, David, Caroline, Julie, Matthew and Ryan Thompson, Meagan, Jacob and Stephanie Lawrence and Hannah, Lyla and Lian Watson; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandsons, Keith Thompson and Todd Watson and a brother, Francis M. Reed.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 17th at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Holden, followed by interment at Hope Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Holden, Organ Fund, 1180 Main St., Holden, MA 01520 or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, New England Chapter, P.O. Box 84595, Boston, MA 02284. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
