Phylis L. (Major) Beaumont

July 10, 1918 — January 2, 2013

HOLDEN - Phylis L. (Major) Beaumont, 94, formally of Rutland, passed away on January 2, 2013, in the Holden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a very long illness.

Born in Worcester in 1918, she was the daughter of Marion G. (Allard) Major and Horace J. Major. She was raised in Worcester and graduated in 1936 from North High School in Worcester. Phylis married Ronald L. Beaumont of Worcester in 1942 and they relocated to Rutland where they raised their family and lived for over 40 years.

A talented seamstress, Phylis loved creating clothing and home furnishings. She and her husband ran their own curtain, drapery, and bedspread business. She worked for several years at Norton Company in Worcester before devoting herself full-time to their business.

After retiring, Phylis and Ronald enjoyed spending their winters on Nettles Island, FL. They also loved traveling and took many cruises over the years.

Phylis and her husband built a home on the island of Vinalhaven, ME. where they summered each year since 1945. Vinalhaven was her “second home”. She truly treasured the time spent on her beloved island, cherished the friendships that she formed there over the years, and held each memory close to her heart.

She loved cooking, reading, traveling and entertaining. Phylis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who found great happiness in spending time with her family. Her home was always open to friends and family, especially at the holidays, which she held very dear.

She leaves two daughters, Dianne E. Shoreys and her husband Francis S. Shoreys of Northborough and Carole L. MacQueston of Paxton; her granchildren, Wesley S. Shoreys and his wife Angelika of Worcester, Brittany L. MacQueston of Barre, Callie L. MacQueston of Camden, ME; and three great-grandchildren, Blake, Jaidyn and Colby. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald L. Beaumont, who died in 2003 and son-in-law, Harold J. MacQueston who died in 2008.

A private ceremony will be held at Miles Funeral Home in Holden. The interment will be at Browns Head Cemetery in Vinalhaven, ME at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Vinalhaven Eldercare Services, P.O. Box 624, Vinalhaven, ME 04863.
