Philip “Buzz” Zaramba, 76, of Worcester passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on 5/30/22. Buzz was born on September 17, 1945, in Rutland, MA to the late Philip and Doris Zaramba. He was a Wachusett High School graduate who enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served his country for four years. He was then honorably discharged as a Vietnam Veteran and then attended and played football for Northwestern Oklahoma State University. It was during his college years that he met and married his wife, Joan Decker, and together they raised a family in Worcester.
Buzz started out his working career as a physical education teacher but then ventured into sales in the liquor industry. His love of sports never faded, as he coached, refereed, umpired, and followed Boston sports teams throughout the years. Once retired, he enjoyed substitute teaching at Doherty High School, traveling to many different countries with his wife, and sharing laughs with friends and family. Buzz had an uncanny relationship with animals as they felt comfortable in his presence. He enjoyed nature and loved to watch his birds on the back deck while listening to games on the radio.
Buzz is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Joan; 2 daughters, Lee and her husband Casey Beaulac of Leominster and Kristin and her husband Bill Servant of Worcester; a son, Mark of Stamford, CT and his former daughter-in-law, Kerri of Fishkill, NY; a brother, Kenneth and his wife Nancy of Eliot, ME; and grandchildren Ryan, Toby, Casey, Jeana, Riley, and Logan.
His family, friends, and students will all miss him terribly and will cherish his memories, his wit and sense of humor, and incredibly inspiring strength. In accordance with his wishes, services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial bench will be constructed near one of his favorite athletic fields. If you would like to contribute, please visit
