HOLDEN - Philip J. Sobol, 71, a lifelong Holden resident died peacefully on Friday, June 29th at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester. He was born in Worcester the son of A. Virginia (Oslund) and the late Felix Sobol. Philip graduated from Wachusett Regional High School with the class of 1964. Growing up, Philip loved the peace and tranquility of working on the family farm. This love led him to work at the former Worcester State Hospital Farm and later as a groundskeeper for Worcester State Hospital, retiring in 2011. Philip was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, loved country and western music and the old cowboy and western themed movies and television shows. He had a passion for the outdoors and was a skilled hunter and angler. A favorite pastime was to go to have coffee with his mom, then sit and chat with her at the barn on the “gossip bench.” Philip was known for his kind and generous spirit and will be sadly missed. Philip was predeceased by his loving wife of 42 years, Alice Sobol in January of 2018. He is survived by his mother, A. Virginia Sobol of Holden; his sons, Carl Sobol and his wife, Marla of Jacksonville, NC and Richard Sobol of Holden; his sister, Carol Bradway of Holden; his brothers, John Sobol and his wife, Diane of Holden and James Sobol and his wife, Lucy of Norwood; his grandchildren, Anthony and Amber Geckeler; his great grandchildren, Ashaureah, Ashlee and Paityn; as well as several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial calling hour from 11 am to 12 pm followed immediately by a memorial service on Tuesday, July 10th at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
