Biography

WORCESTER – Philip Shack, age 94, died at his residence on Thursday, December 15, 2016.
He leaves his wife of 67 years, Audrey (Lieder) Shack; two daughters, Jill Shack of Worcester and Wendy, wife of Richard Lubkin of Rye Brook, NY; five grandchildren, Julie Birns of Tucson, AZ, Amanda, wife of Mark Roth of Dix Hills, NY, Elizabeth, wife of Ryan Asher of Boston, Benjamin Lubkin of San Francisco and Alexander Lubkin of Rye Brook, NY; and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Jeremy Roth.  He was predeceased by his daughter, Helane Shack and by his great-grandson, Jacob Roth.  He was also predeceased by his brothers, Arthur, Al and Lou Shack, and by his sisters, Dorothy Freedman, Gertrude Shack and Sara Shack.
He was born in Worcester, a son of Israel and Jenny (Bloomberg) Shack and was a lifelong resident.  He was an Army Veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific.
In 1955, he was the founder, owner and operator of Shack’s Clothes in Fitchburg.  He was a co-owner of Shack’s Clothes in Worcester and in Auburn.
He was a member of Temple Emanuel Sinai and a former member of Mt. Pleasant Country Club in Boylston.  He served on the building committee of Temple Sinai.  He was also a member of the Worcester Lodge of B’Nai Brith.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 1:00 P.M. ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 18, IN TEMPLE EMANUEL SINAI, 661 SALISBURY STREET, WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN.  Burial will be in B’Nai Brith Cemetery, Worcester.
Memorial Observance will be announced at the time of the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
