Sterling – Philip Langlands Nash, 92, died peacefully at Knollwood Nursing Center, Worcester on October 27. Philip was born in Westwood, the son of Thomas V. and Marion (Langlands) Nash and grew up in Weymouth.
Philip was a graduate of Milton Academy and went on to earn a Bachelor’s in Economics from Brown University. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in Germany after World War II. Philip married the love of his life, Eris (Dietz) on March 30, 1955. The couple initially lived in Weymouth, but later settled in Sterling where they raised their family and lived for over 50 years. Phil had managed the operations at several heating oil supply companies over the course of his career. He also worked as the sales lead for a firm that developed and installed software systems for companies in the home heating oil and gasoline distribution business. Most recently he worked for C.K. Smith Co.
Philip had been a member of the First Church in Sterling for many years. He was a gifted athlete and had a lifelong passion for sports. In his youth, he loved playing baseball and after playing for Brown University and in the Army leagues, he considered playing professionally. Philip also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, sudoku, playing almost any card game and was a very good bridge player. He especially enjoyed horse racing and the highlight of that for him was watching the Kentucky Derby annually. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Philip will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 68 years, Eris T. (Dietz) Nash; his son Clayton Nash and his wife, Maria Garcia of Warren, RI; his daughters, Kimberlee Clymer and her husband, Jeff of Narragansett, RI and Brenda Buchanan and her husband, Scott of Bristol, NH; his grandchildren, Lauren Clymer and her husband, Colin Donohue, Eliza Clymer, Jillian Clymer, Samantha Buchanan and her husband, Chris Bauer, Kayla Buchanan-Craig and her husband, Tucker, Stephen Buchanan and Madeline Haywood and her husband, Gregor; his great-grandchildren, Miles and Taron; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Philip was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas, Harold and Richard; and his sisters, Constance and Dorothy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Miles-Sterling Funeral Home and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Sterling. In recognition of Phil’s love for animals, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NEADS at neads.org.
