Philip Kush

September 6, 1938 — March 20, 2012

LANCASTER/STERLING – Philip Kush, 73, of Old Common Road, Lancaster, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Clinton Hospital in Clinton. He was born and raised in Great Meadows, New Jersey, the son of Michael and Julia (Drochak) Kush and lived over 40 years in Sterling and 25 years in Lancaster.



In the 1980s, Phil owned and operated Kush Construction in Sterling and later worked for the International Union of Operating Engineers and Knapik Builders in Grafton before retiring in 2008. He served in the Army National Guard of Massachusetts from 1960 to 1963.



Phil will be remembered for his love of food, polka music, dancing, and his sense of humor. A road to a friend’s house was never too far for Phil to drive. He enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his grandchildren.



He leaves his wife of 25 years, Anna M. (Freel) Kush; a daughter, Lisa A. Stanislaw and her husband Robert of Rutland; two stepdaughters, Debra A. (Nutting) Williams and her husband Bruce of Lancaster and Michelle L. (Nutting) Bond and her husband Stephen of Charlton; two brothers, Frederick Kush and his wife Betty, and David Kush all of Sterling; a sister, Elizabeth Furmanick and her husband Richard of Sterling; four grandchildren, Joshua Sawyer, Christina Bond, Cole and Jared Williams; many nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by brothers, Nicholas, Michael and Peter Kush, and sisters, Annie Benbrook and Mary Kowalick.



Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 23, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. A funeral Mass honoring Phil’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, at St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling with burial following at Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road (Rte. 62), Sterling. Memorial donations may be made to St. Richard of Chichester Church, P.O. Box 657, Sterling, MA 01564.
