Philip A. Klausmeyer

HOLDEN – Dr. Philip A. Klausmeyer, 53, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Rose Monahan Hospice House after a 14 month battle with the emperor of all maladies, pancreatic cancer. He was born in Kalamazoo, MI, raised in Pulaski, NY and had lived in Lenox before moving to Holden in 1997.
He leaves his wife of nearly 30 years, Amy J. (Constant) Klausmeyer; two sons, Ethan J. Klausmeyer of Holden and Noah L. Klausmeyer of Boston; his parents, David and Suzanne (Hofmann) Klausmeyer of Lenox; three brothers, David Klausmeyer of Lenox, Edward Klausmeyer of New Marlborough and Stephen Klausmeyer of Becket; a sister, Joanna Carothers of Marquette, MI; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Philip graduated from UMass Amherst with a bachelor’s degree in Art History and Fine Arts. He earned his Master’s degree from the University of Delaware’s Winterthur Art Conservation Program and completed his PhD. at Clark University. He worked at The Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University. A loyal conservation scientist and painting conservator, Philip worked at the Worcester Art Museum for 20 years before leaving due to progression of illness in May. He was a prolific artist, spending his summers out in Truro painting landscapes of the coastal dunes. Philip was a member of Peaked Hill Trust; a nonprofit dedicated to the preservation and management of the no-frills abodes on the Cape Cod National Seashore.
Philip was a devoted husband, father, brother and son. His steadfast devotion to the arts is a legacy carried on through his family.
Philip’s family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation for the care and compassion provided by the doctors, nurses, staff and the countless others that touched his life in those final days with tenderness we will never forget.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, August 29, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A private committal service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Lenox. The memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Art Conservation Dept. at the Worcester Art Museum, 55 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
