RUTLAND – Peter A. Moran, 78, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Rutland with his loving family by his side on Saturday, July 9, 2021, after a brief illness. Born in Worcester on September 20, 1943, Pete was the son of Milton F. and Beatrice I. (Kimball) Moran and was raised in the Burncoat Street section of the city before moving to Rutland in 1988.
Pete will be lovingly remembered and missed by his beloved wife of 33 years, Wendy E. (Potvin) Moran; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Sweeney, and Katherine M. Sweeney both of Rutland; a brother, Dennis Moran and his wife Kathy of Center Harbor, NH; a sister, Carol Bibaud of Worcester; four grandchildren, Ava, Camden, Caleb and Wesley; many nieces and nephews. Pete also leaves his wife’s family who appreciates his kindness and his gentle ways. Besides his parents, Pete is predeceased by a twin brother, Patrick Moran, a sister, Marianne Moran, and several nieces and nephews that were near and dear to his heart.
Pete worked as a machinist at Warner & Swasey Company and in the maintenance department at Assumption College both in Worcester. He was an avid outdoorsman and was a longtime member of the Rutland Sportsman’s Club. In his spare time, you could find Pete planning his next hunting or fishing adventure either locally or as far away as Aroostook County in Maine next to the Canadian border. He enjoyed the tranquility of trout fishing in local streams and the rush of hooking a forty-pound striped bass in the waters off the Cape and Block Island.
Most importantly, Pete loved being a family man and spending time with Wendy, his daughters, and grandchildren. He attended many of their events throughout the years and looked forward to being together for the holidays. Although Pete is remembered by Wendy as a strong, brave, and good-hearted man, he will also be warmly regarded by others as a loyal and kind friend.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Pete’s family from 6 to 9 pm on Monday, July 18th at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday, July 19th at St. Patrick’s Church, 258 Main St., Rutland. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery in Rutland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kids Fishing Derby Fund, c/o the Rutland Sportsman’s Club, Inc., 75 Pleasantdale Rd, Rutland, MA 01543.
