STERLING - Peter J. Gentile, age 70 of Sterling, MA passed away on August 15, 2024 after a brief illness. He was born on February 25, 1954, in Newton, MA and is preceded in death by his parents Jerome R. Gentile and Bertha C. (Martini) Gentile. He is survived by his adoring partner Cathleen Corcoran, his brother Jerome R. Gentile Jr., his sister-in-law Susan S. Gentile of Newport, RI, his sister Susan (Gentile) Diamantopoulos and his brother-in-law Dale Diamantopoulos of Bourne, MA.
He was a loving and generous uncle to his nieces and nephews, Gabriella, Francesca, Krista, Michael and Peter. A cherished father figure to Tina, Julie and Dominic, he was also known as Papa Peter to his beloved grandchildren, Angelina, Domenic, Isabella, Vincent, Alivia, Natalie, David and Thaelo.
Peter attended Northeastern University as an undergrad. He then worked as a research assistant at Harvard University’s genetics laboratory. He completed his graduate work at Northeastern University later becoming a Physician Assistant (PA).
Peter began his medical career in pediatrics as a PA in Pittsfield, MA. The balance of his 30+ year career was as a PA in the Pediatric Trauma and Surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, retiring in 2019. Peter’s dedication, professionalism, compassion and kindness for his patients and colleagues earned him great respect.
An avid outdoorsman, particularly hiking and camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire with friends, brought him great joy. One of Peter’s goals with MDC (My Darling Cathleen) was to visit all the National Parks in the US. They visited many. They traveled many times to Florida, Key West, a favorite.
Multi-faceted in his hobbies and interests, he liked tinkering with cars and engines, gardening, birding, cooking and WWII history. He maintained a positive outlook on life and added levity with his sarcastic humor. Peter lived a life that made a difference to all who knew him. He will remain in our hearts forever.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Peter’s family from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 24th, at Miles-Sterling Funeral & Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 pm.
