Peter Watson Campbell

WORCESTER – Peter Watson Campbell, 94, of 65 Briarwood Circle, died peacefully at his residence on Sunday, November 20, 2011 under the loving care of his family. He was born in Paisley, Scotland, the son of William P. and Elizabeth (Steven) Campbell. He moved to the United States at the age of 6, was raised in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and later lived over 50 years in Holden before moving to the Briarwood community in 2002.

Peter graduated from Pawtucket High School in 1934 and served his machinist apprenticeship at Browne and Sharpe in Providence. He worked for O.S. Walker Co. in Worcester for many years and from 1970 to 1979 owned and operated Campbell Magnetic and Machine Co. in Worcester. He was a 32 Degree Mason. His Masonic memberships included St. John’s Lodge of Masons and the Scottish Rites Bodies both in Rhode Island and the Aleppo Temple Shrine in Wilmington. Peter was a World War II Army veteran and served in the European Theatre.

His wife of 54 years, Barbara (Gilbert) Campbell died in 2004. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his son, Steven G. Campbell and his wife MaryAnn of Southbridge; his daughter, Melissa C. Petersen and her husband Kenneth of West Hartford, CT; three grandchildren, Rev. Nathan Petersen and his wife Kelly, Philip Petersen, and Bethany Howard and her husband Joshua; four great-grandchildren, Audrey, Ethan, and Eliza Petersen and Lucas Howard. His sister, Elizabeth Hamilton predeceased him.

Peter enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. His interests included music, skiing, golf, lawn bowling and especially time spent at his cottage in New Hampshire.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A service honoring Peter’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, at Briarwood Retirement Community Center, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Briarwood Residence Assistance, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, MA 01606; or Hartford Christian Academy, Music Fund, 155 Mountain Road, West Hartford, CT 06107.
