STERLING – Peter A. Capone, 86, of 11 Hilltop Drive, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Sunday, May 30, 2004 in the Oakdale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He leaves his devoted wife of 52 years, Hedwige (Chapulonis) Capone; a son, James Capone of China; a daughter, Cynthia A. Capone of Westport; a sister, Clara Latini of Leominster; three granddaughters, Katie, Amber and Noelle. He was born in Leominster, son of Albert and Anna (Angelini) Capone, and lived in Sterling for 46 years. He served in the Army during World War II helping to construct the Alkan Highway and then served on several fronts in Europe where he was awarded the Bronze Star for the Battle of the Bulge and storming the beach in Normandy.
Mr. Capone worked as a Meat Cutter for First National Grocery. He was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church and the St. Vincent de Paul Society where he was past president and received the “Top Hat Award”. He played semi-pro football with the Leominster Lions.
Mr. Capone’s funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. A calling period will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road (Rte. 62), Sterling. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Richard of Chichester Church, P.O.
