Pentti J. Rantala

PAXTON – Pentti J. Rantala, 86, died Friday, July 21, 2006, in UMass Memorial Healthcare, Worcester, following a brief illness.
His wife, Viola H. (Miander) Rantala, died in 1967. He leaves his daughter, Susan Warner of Litchfield, CT; a grandson, Charles “Chip” N. Warner IV and his wife Ramona, of Torrington, CT; two great-grandchildren, Heidi and Serena Warner of Torrington, CT; a sister, Eva Hirvi of Paxton; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Paul and Aake predeceased him.
He was born in Kurikka, Finland, son of Isaac and Lyyli (Kujala) Rantala. Mr. Rantala worked as a tool design engineer for Morgan Construction Company before retiring in 1982.
A graveside service for Mr. Rantala will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, at Rural Cemetery, 142 Main Street, (Rte. 122A), Rutland. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Finnish Heritage Society, Sovittaja, Scholarship fund, 4 Ridgewood Road, Paxton, MA 01612. The Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
