BOYNTON BEACH - Peggy Kahn passed away peacefully on February 28, 2022 at her home in Boynton Beach, Florida, surrounded by her family. She was 95 years old.
Born Pagonia Voutsas, on November 20, 1926, Peg was the daughter of Greek immigrants and grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, with her younger sister, Vasso. From a young age, she helped her parents with their tavern and restaurant businesses, writing menus, translating to English, and taking care of her sister while her parents worked evenings.
Peggy attended Emerson College where she met her husband, Leslie Kahn. They married in 1947 and were attached at the hip for the next 71 years, until Les' passing in 2018. Together they raised their three children, Gerry, David, and Judith, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Peg was a deeply devoted mother, selflessly caring for her children, as well as her own mother in her later years.
Peggy was a beloved middle school teacher for twenty-five years in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, and took great pride in her students. She was a lifelong learner, returning to college in 1967 to complete her degrees in Education after raising her children.
In Springfield, Peg was surrounded by a strong social circle of cherished friends, and family in nearby Worcester and Boston. One of her favorite pastimes was her weekly Wednesday night Bridge game with “the girls". Peg was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, crochet, and needlepoint.
Peg was as strong as they come and approached life with fierce determination. She had a sweet tooth that could rival any dessert lover and she fondly referred to herself as PPPecan. As the matriarch of the family, she united her family and closely followed the pursuits of her children and grandchildren.
She is mourned by her children Gerry, David (Jana), and Judith (Donald); and her grandchildren Gabrielle, Mikaela, Derek, and Justin. She will be missed very much.
Peggy’s family will gather for a graveside funeral service at 11:30am on Friday, March 4, 2022, at B’nai Brith Cemetery, 55 St. John’s Road, Worcester. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
