RUTLAND - Paul Carroll Miller of Rutland was born on October 12, 1936 in Worcester MA. He was the only child of his parents, Carroll A. and Eva M. (Beck) Miller. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he pursued his interest in mechanical engineering. Paul served in the United States Army active duty from 1960-62.
Paul resided in Worcester from birth until he moved to Rutland in 2006. He was a devoted friend and partner to Susan R. Marsh Hall who predeceased him in 2016. Paul was an enthusiastic bicyclist who shared many cycling rides with Sue. He was a committed volunteer with Wachusett Greenways. Paul and Sue spent many hours helping to clear and maintain the Mass Central Rail Trail. They also enjoyed participating in rides with Seven Hills Wheelmen, with Paul on his recumbent bicycle.
Daily lunches at KP’s restaurant were a highlight for Paul and Sue in Holden and later in Rutland. During Covid times, the Baliskaj family continued to prepare and deliver lunches to Paul.
Paul loved flying and caring for model airplanes. Paul happily anticipated adventures with his friend Charlie Greffrath flying their planes followed by sharing a true Coke. He was a member of Quinapoxet Model Flying Club.
In April 2021, Paul suffered a stroke. Nurse Suneet encouraged Paul as he worked to restore strength. She shared these words of hope as she held his hand: “Paul, you matter.” Paul then moved to Sterling Village in Sterling, MA where he was grateful to his faithful caregivers on Chestnut.
The funeral service and fellowship will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 19th, at the First Baptist Church, 1216 Main Street, Holden. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery in Holden. Memorial gifts may be made to Sterling Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 18 Dana Hill Rd, Sterling, MA 01564 for their fund for patient activities and encouragement or to an organization that practices: love your neighbor.
