HOLDEN – Paul F. Bateman, 57, of 1479 Main Street in the Jefferson section of Holden, a life-long resident of Holden and its Postmaster, died on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 in UMass Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 33 years, Barbara L. (Everleth) Bateman; his son, Kyle P. Bateman and his wife Nicole of Webster; a daughter, Karla J. Corneau and her husband James of Methuen; a brother, Barry H. Bateman of Holden; two grandchildren, Grace and Lily Bateman; nephews and nieces. His sister, Judy Ann Listowich of Sterling, predeceased him. He was born in Holden, son of Francis H. and Florence M. (Wandland) Bateman. He was a 1966 graduate of Wachusett Regional High School and attended Bentley College in Waltham and Worcester State College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Paul worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years starting his career as a city letter carrier in 1978, promoted to Supervisor in Worcester in 1984, Postmaster in Clinton in 1992 and Postmaster in Holden in 1993 until the present. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Holden.
The funeral service for Paul will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 8, in the First Baptist Church of Holden, 1216 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56),Paxton. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s name may be made to the Neonatal ICU, UMass Memorial Hospital, 119 Belmont Street, Worcester, MA 01605; or the Spina Bifida Association, 4590 MacArthur Blvd. NW, Suite 250, Washington, DC 20007.
