Patricia L. Scarborough, 73, of Rutland, MA passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13th, 2025, at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester, after a long and hard-fought battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Patty was born on January 5th, 1952, in Worcester. She was the daughter of Bruce and Lucy Card of Shrewsbury. Patty graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1970 where she played field hockey and basketball. She also attended Worcester State College, graduating in 1975 with a degree in education.
Patty leaves her husband of 50 years, Ron Scarborough S; two sons Ronald Jr. and his partner Jennifer Varin of Sutton, Michael and his wife Kerri of Rutland. She is also survived by her father Bruce Card Sr. of Worcester, a sister Barbara Cotter and her partner Al Weems of Sutton, her brothers Bruce Card and his wife Cindy of Worcester, David Card and his partner Megan Gajewski of Shrewsbury. Five grandchildren, Patryk Bielski, Lucy Scarborough and Jasia Scarborough, Alyssa Scarborough and Hailey Scarborough, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Patty is predeceased by her mother Lucy Card of Shrewsbury.
Life in Shrewsbury was full of wonderful times. Many of which were made around Jordan Pond. Pat learned at an early age how to swim and fish with many lifelong friends. Family gatherings were always an important part of Pat's life, enjoying holiday gatherings, learning to cook traditional Italian recipes and sharing stories of family adventures.
Pat was a devoted Wife, Mom, Sister, and Mimi. Family was her priority in life along with her strong religious beliefs. She was a Master Catechist and taught Religious Education at St. Anne's Church in Shrewsbury for over 40 years. In addition, she was the Director of Religious Education after her retirement from the UMASS Medical School where she worked for more than 25 years, before retiring in 2004.
Her love of the ocean was instilled at an early age by family vacations to Cape Cod and other beaches. Later in life she and Ron owned a home on the Cape for more than 20 years where they fostered so many wonderful memories with their grandchildren and friends from the beaches of Dennis Port.
She loved to travel and enjoyed so many trips to Italy, France, The Netherlands and many locations across the United States.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Jewish Healthcare Center, Worcester, for their wonderful Love, compassion and care they showed Pat over this past year.
Family and friends are asked to join her family for Calling Hours on Tuesday, February 25th from 4-7 pm at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, MA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 26th at 11 am at St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA.
