RUTLAND/WORCESTER - Patricia A. (McTigue) Kane, 86, passed away peacefully in the loving care of her family and the compassionate staff at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. Born and raised in Worcester, Pat was the daughter of Francis and Marguerite (Perry) McTigue. She lived the last 19 years of her life in Rutland.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her children, Michael F. Kane, who was her care taker for the last few years and his wife Sandra of Rutland, Peter F. Kane and his wife, Elizabeth of Keene, NH, and Lee Ann Glynn and her husband, Francis of Cape Coral, Florida; a brother, Peter W. McTigue of El Segundo, California; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Longo, Brian Duffy, Erin Glynn, Matthew Kane, Katelyn Brodmerkle, Timothy Kane, Lindsay Creelman, and Shannon Kane; eight great grandchildren, Kate, Anna, Evan, Lilah, Avery, Liam, Zayn, and Brody; Two step grandchildren Sadie and Drew and several cousins nieces and nephews including her favorite niece Stacy of El Segundo CA. Pat is predeceased by a son, U.S. Army. Private first-class Matthew P. Kane, who died in 1977; and her husband Lee F. Kane, who died in 1981.
Pat was a graduate of South High School in Worcester and was a lifeguard at Coes Pond in her teen years. She later trained as a licensed practical nurse where she worked at Worcester State Hospital and Mill Hill Nursing Home. She volunteered her time as an AA counsellor at Ad Care Hospital in Worcester. Pat was committed to helping families struggling to understand the challenges and to cope with alcohol and drug addiction by being a sponsor for Al Anon. She was also a long-time member of Our Lady of the Angels Church in Worcester.
She was most at home working in her garden and tending to her flowers. Pat had a passion for animals and was known to take in a stray or two including a raccoon, a duck, cats, and too many dogs to mention. She generally wasn’t able to turn away any animal that made their way into her backyard in need of help. Her children fondly remember their mom taking on less traditional roles like teaching them how to fish or catch frogs at local ponds and “the res.”, as neighborhood kids knew it.
Whether it be packing the kids in the car and heading to Hampton Beach on a warm summer day or teaching her children how to swim at their grandmother's pool, Pat made sure her family was taken care of and was always there for them. She nurtured her children with unconditional love, disciplined with care and wisdom, and always with a gentle and loving spirit.
In her later years while she lived in Rutland, Pat cherished being with her family and her visits with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never lost her love for swimming at the beach and treasured her many trips to see her daughter Lee Ann in Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 10th, at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St., Worcester. Per Pats request there will be no calling hours. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Worcester.
