WORCESTER - Panagiotis “Peter” Stratis, 91, a longtime resident of Worcester, passed away peacefully on July 6th, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Ourania “Rena” (Gatzogiannis), his devoted son George, Tina, and beloved granddaughters, Ariana and Elena. He was predeceased by his son Foto in 1989. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and extended family members, both here and in Greece.
Panagiotis was born in the village of Lia in Epirus, Greece. He spent his early years crossing the mountains between Greece and Albania peddling antique goods. He served in the Greek army and immigrated to the United States in 1961. His career began with Table Talk Pies, where he worked for 25 years before he and his wife opened their own business - Jim's Pizza in North Brookfield.
Panagiotis will be remembered as an easy going and patient man whose infectious joy enriched those around him. He enjoyed spending time watering and tending to his garden and cherished his annual vacations to Maine with his granddaughters. Panagiotis helped at many Grecian Festivals and was a lifetime member of the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was a member of the Bakery and Confectionery Union and was a past president of the Society Lykeion.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 10th from 3-5pm at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Burial will be private.
