G. Owen Listovitch

March 31, 1951 — April 29, 2011

HUBBARDSTON/PRINCETON - G. Owen Listovitch, 60, of Bemis Road, Hubbardston, formerly of Princeton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, April 29, 2011, after an 18 year battle from complications stemming from leukemia.

He was born in Binghamton, New York, and lived 50 years in Princeton, where he and his wife Cindy raised their three loving children, before moving to Hubbardston in 2001. Upon graduating from Wachusett Regional High School in Holden, Owen enlisted and served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard and worked for the Holden Police Department for thirteen years. He later worked seventeen years as a resident engineer for the Massachusetts Department of Capital Asset Management (DCAM). Owen worked most recently as a construction engineer for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

At the age of twelve, Owen began his volunteer firefighting career with the Town of Princeton where he served over 30 years until retiring due to illness. He was a passionate runner from the time he left the track field at Wachusett High School . He ran many local road races and marathons including the Boston and New York marathons. He was a member of the Central Mass Striders who continued to be his close friends.

Owen was a proud and loving grandfather, and enjoyed attending their many sport games and school functions. He best loved being with his family at home and on trips, telling jokes, cooking on the grill and even boogie boarding and looking for starfish at the ocean. His family was most important to him and saw or spoke to them daily. He loved Sunday drives, working in the yard at home and just being with his best friend and wife, Cindy.
He survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 40 years, Cynthia L. (Taylor) Listovitch; a son, John O. Listovitch of Epping, New Hampshire; two daughters, Kelley A. Ford and her husband Jeremy and Sarah M. Smith and her husband Robbie, all of Hubbardston; a brother, Jim Morgan; three sisters, Diane Wood, Donna McIlrith, and Marna Wright; five grandchildren, Tyler, Hunter, Mason, Rylee, and Samantha Rae. He leaves six nieces and three nephews. Owen is predeceased by a brother, Francis Every and a niece Alicia Morgan, who fought a battle with fanconi anemia. Owen also leaves an extended family of aunts, uncles and loving cousins from New York whom he found after searching for his birth parents.
