HOLDEN – Oke J. Nystrom, 87, of Chapel Street, died on Wednesday, May 3, 2006, in the Christopher House, Worcester after an illness.
His wife of 53 years, Rita M. (Ekberg) Nystrom, died in 1994. He leaves his son, Barry O. Nystrom of Raymond, Maine; three daughters, Cathy Bodin and Cynthia J. Erickson both of Worcester and Susan E. Lombardo of Yardley, Pennsylvania; a stepbrother, Theodore Strom of Holden; a stepsister, Elsa Ahnrud of Holden; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was born in Gavle, Sweden and lived in Worcester and 58 years in Holden.
Mr. Nystrom worked at Norton Company in Worcester for 44 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member Scandinavian Athletic Club and the Frohsinn Club both in Shrewsbury and the Vasa Order of America, Nordic Lodge #611 in Worcester. He was a World War II Navy Veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific theater. He enjoyed playing the accordion.
The funeral service for Mr. Nystrom will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 5, in the funeral home.
