WORCESTER - Norman G. Minka, 80, of Worcester passed away peacefully on August 20, 2020.
Norman is predeceased by his wife Dorothy, of 36 years and his older brother, Louis Minka. Norman is survived by his two daughters Anne McCarthy and her husband William of Worcester, MA, and Lisa O'Neil of Coventry, RI. He is also survived by his four cherished grandchildren, Katherine Moustakis of Dedham, MA, Meaghan McCarthy of Worcester, MA, Dylan Boucher of Coventry, RI, and Thomas O'Neil of Coventry, RI as well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Norman was born in Worcester, MA son of the late Thomas and Theodora (Katro) Minka. He was a graduate of Worcester Junior College and Northeastern University graduating with honors in 1969 receiving a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology. For many years, he worked as a design engineer at Fenwall Electronics in Framingham, MA before starting his own business, Securitronics, Inc. of Worcester in 1969. He was founder of the Massachusetts Security Contractors Association, treasurer of the New England Alarm Associations Council, Inc., and a member of many associations related to the security and life safety industry. Retiring in 2002, he continued his passion for electrical engineering.
Norman was a faithful Orthodox Christian and a life-long member of St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church in Worcester, MA. He devoted much of his life to the service of the church and intensive studies at Hellenic College - Holy Cross Theological Seminary in Brookline, MA earning a certificate in Religious Studies. He was proud of his time serving as President of the Board of Directors for the church, member of the choir and most recently for his role as a tonsured reader.
Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed volunteering. He was heavily involved with his wife's youth theater company, Peter Pan Players as well as volunteering at the Albanian and Greek festivals of Worcester, MA and Centerville, MA. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Norman was an avid traveler and loved exploring new places as much as he enjoyed spending time relaxing with his family at his summer home on Cape Cod.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, especially George, James and Lorna.
Relatives and friends are invited to honor Norman and pay their respects from 3:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, August 23rd at St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Appropriate face coverings must be worn when in the Church, and social distancing must be honored. As a requirement, there will be no conversations in the church with family and friends during visitation. A private funeral service will be held on Monday, August 24th in St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church with the Rev. Fr. Mark Doku officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
To attend the funeral service virtually, we will be live-streaming from St. Mary’s at noon on Monday, August 24th and live-streaming the burial in Hope Cemetery at approximately 1:15 pm. Furthermore, the burial service may be viewed at your leisure for 90 days by following the aforementioned process.
