Biography
BARRE - Norman "Abe" P. Harrington, 87, of Barre, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Holden Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. Born and raised in Natick, Norman was the son of Ralph H. and Bernice G. (Hodge) Harrington and lived 12 years in Hubbardston before moving to Barre in 1984.
He leaves his wife and best friend of 42 years, Sally C. (Chenoweth) Harrington; three sons, Peter Guilbault and his wife Laura of Hubbardston, Donald A. Harrington and his wife Margo of Cumberland, Maine, and Timothy B. Guilbault and his wife Jeanne of North Carolina; two daughters, Patricia Mespelli and her husband Mark of Upton and Susan McKinnon and her husband Steven of Beverly; ten grandchildren, Bethany, Danielle, Sarah, Daniel, Jacob, Michael, Katherine, Benjamin, Nathaniel, and Caroline; nephews and nieces. he is predeceased by a brother, Arthur Harrington and two sisters, Lois Madix and Barbara Dillon.
Norman graduated from Natick High School and attended Tufts University. He was a self employed carpenter in the area for many years. Norman embraced his community and was a member of the Barre Board of Appeals, Barre Thief and Rogue Society, Barre Business Association, and the Barre Rescue Squad where he served on the board of directors. He was also a member of the Mt. Zion Lodge of Masons in Barre.
He was proud of his wife Sally who owned and operated The Country Gourmet in Barre. Although he didn't work at the store, he wouldn't miss his morning cup of coffee with her at the shop. He was a perfectionist who had a great attention to details and showed incredible patience when working on a project.
A memorial gathering will be held at a time and place to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Barre Food Pantry, c/o Barre Congregational Church, 30 Park Street, Barre, MA 01005.
