Norma W. Gagnon

August 1, 1915 — July 31, 2005

Sterling – Norma W. Gagnon (Norma Amorelle Wahlberg) of Sterling, formerly of West Boylston, Westlake, OH, and Worcester, died suddenly while vacationing on Cape Cod on Sunday, July 31, 2005, the day before her ninetieth birthday.

She was the wife of the late Edmund Harold Gagnon of West Boylston. She leaves her daughter, Sandra G. Courchesne and her husband Robert E. of Hingham; a son, Ronald E. Gagnon, Sr. and his wife Ellen M. of Sterling; six grandchildren, Ronald Gagnon, Jr., of Boston, Christophe Courchesne of Amesbury, Renee Courchesne of Hingham, Kelley, Corey and Eric Gagnon of Sterling. Two sisters, Evelyn Hallberg and Verna Braithwaite predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Gustaf and Clara (Boos) Wahlberg.

She graduated from North High School and Worcester State College. She taught elementary school in Holliston, Rutland, Holden, and West Boylston, and she was the librarian at West Boylston High School, retiring in 1980. In her retirement, she was active in the First Congregational Church, assisting in the operation of the church’s thrift shop. She enjoyed swimming in her backyard pool and yearly vacations to the town of Eastham on Cape Cod. She was an able crossword puzzle solver and an avid reader of mysteries and historical fiction.

The funeral service for Mrs. Gagnon will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 in the First Congregational Church of West Boylston, 26 Central Street, West Boylston. Burial will follow at All Faiths Cemetery, 7 Island Road, Worcester. There are no calling hours. Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Rd. (Rte.12), Sterling is directing arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of West Boylston, 26 Central Street, West Boylston, MA 01583
