Norma Lucille (Rawling) Malo

December 5, 1932 — January 3, 2022

Worcester/Holden – Norma Lucille (Rawling) Malo, 89, died peacefully on Monday, January 3, 2022, at UMass Memorial Healthcare – Memorial Campus, Worcester. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Ernest and Bernice (Leroy) Rawling and graduated from Commerce High School.

Norma had a passion for music that started during her childhood. She mastered several instruments and had a special appreciation for the piano. She loved classical music and studied at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She went on to teach piano to many students fortunate enough to call her teacher. Norma was a beloved and dedicated member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Worcester, where she served as the Organist and Choir Director. Norma had a keen ability to bring the congregation together with music and song and always found a way to get the kids involved.

Norma married her one true love, Ernie Malo, in 1956 and they were as much in love today as the day they met. The couple lived and brought up their family in Tatnuck Square before moving to Holden in their golden years. Norma worked with Ernie at the family business, Malo Auto Body, even helping Ernie build two homes and countless stone walls. They loved spending time together; at family gatherings, watching rom- coms, and ballroom dancing. She loved treasure hunting at yard sales on the cape, sewing, and baking. Norma’s apple pie was the best you ever tasted east or west of the Mississippi. Norma was so proud to be a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and favorite Aunt to many. She will be dearly missed.

Norma is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Ernest R. Malo; her children, Michelle Johnston and her husband, Jay of Hubbardston, Christina Iacocca and her husband, Vincent of Holden, Raymond Malo and his wife, Timarie of Fairhaven, and Rochelle Brenner and her husband, Quentin of Worcester. Norma is also survived by her much-loved grandchildren, Melissa, Travis, Courtney, Domenic, Natalie, Forrest, Charlee, Ethan, Cameron, Jameson, Elle, and one great-granddaughter, Alice. Last and certainly not least, she leaves her sister-in-law Jan George and her husband, Harold from Spencer, along with many nieces and nephews. Norma was predeceased by her son, Robert Malo, her granddaughter, Jessica Johnston, her brothers, Albert and Edward Rawling.

A memorial service honoring and celebrating Norma’s life will be held at a later date to be determined. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, https://www.pancan.org/ in loving memory of her son Rob.
