HOLDEN – Catherine (Ninos) Burgholzer, 52, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, May 1, 2011. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Paul E. Burgholzer; her children, Julie Ann, Casey Lee, and Paul Andrew Burgholzer; her mother, Paraskevi "Patricia" Ninos of Holden; a sister, Anne Malkasian and her husband Steven of Paxton; her twin, Maria Drosidis and her husband Phil of Worcester; a brother, Sam Ninos and his wife Aristia of Charlton; 19 nieces and nephews. Catherine was the daughter of the late Stavros S. Ninos, and was born and raised in Worcester. She lived in Holden for the last 18 years.
Catherine graduated from Doherty Memorial High School in 1976, Westfield State College in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science Degree, received her Paralegal certificate from Assumption College in 1982, and a Masters Degree in Health Education from Worcester State College in 2000. She was captain of the gymnastic team in high school and college, competing in local and state competitions.
As a paralegal, she specialized in real estate at various law firms working both in Worcester and Boston. She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Worcester. Her many hobbies and interests included traveling, taking pictures, biking, skiing, golfing, yoga, and floral design. Most recently, she taught Health Education at the Coolidge and Paton Elementary Schools in Shrewsbury and Adaptive Physical Education throughout the Shrewsbury school district. Catherine truly enjoyed all of her students and all of her colleagues that she worked with over the years.
Her family would like to express deep appreciation and gratitude to her many friends who showed so much care and compassion for Catherine during her illness.
Catherine's most intense passion was being a devoted and loving mother to her three wonderful children: Julie, Casey and Paul.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 5th in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A Trisagion Service will be held during calling hours. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 6th, in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester. All attending the funeral service are respectfully requested to go directly to the Cathedral. Burial services will be private in Grove Cemetery, Holden, and will be for the immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral Family Center (in memory of Catherine and the Ninos Family), 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
