DUXBURY/HOLDEN – Nina P. (Smith) Desroches, 60, formerly of Holden, died at home in the presence of her loving family on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Worcester, Nina was the daughter of Parker S. and Marlene J. (Krieger) Smith. She was raised in Holden and lived the last 27 years in Duxbury.
Nina was a 1970 graduate of Wachusett Regional High School in Holden and attended Long Beach State College in California. She worked in the patient account office at UMass Memorial Healthcare in Worcester for several years. She will be remembered for her gentle kindness and love of animals. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, entertaining and spending time with her husband at the beach.
She is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband of 22 years, H. Donald Desroches, Jr.; a sister, Laurie Martin and her husband Todd of South Dennis, and their children, Kim, Dave and Josh; many nephews and nieces; and her beloved molly poo, “Daisy”. A brother, Jerry E. Smith, and a niece, Alicia Smith, predeceased her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, at the First Congregational Church of Holden, 1180 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a funeral service honoring her life at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, 1284 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
