HOLDEN – Neil A. Olen, 81, of Marlin Road, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2013, in the presence of his loving family at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Neil was the son of Samuel and Charlotte (Diers) Olen and lived in Worcester before moving to Holden in 1977.
After graduating from high school in Brooklyn, Neil enlisted in the United States Army where he honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict. While in the service, Neil met the love of his life, Dorothy Paskavitz at a USO sponsored dance at Fort Devens. They married in 1953 and moved to Worcester where they raised their three sons.
Neil worked 35 years at Wyman Gordon Co. in Grafton as an industrial engineer. He continued his education earning an associate's degree in engineering from Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester. He was a member of St. George Church in Worcester, its Men’s Club, and served as a Eucharistic Minster. He was also a member of the Greendale Retired Men’s Club and the Wyman Gordon Pistol Team.
Neil embraced being a father and coached his son’s baseball teams with the Lou Gehrig’s Little League at Vernon Hill Park. He looked forward to evenings out with his wife either ballroom dancing or stepping it up with the latest dance craze. He was a doting husband and could be found cooking, doing household chores, or any task that would assist his wife. Neil will be remembered as a sweet natured and engaging man who never met anyone he didn’t consider a friend.
He is survived and will be lovingly missed by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy E. (Paskavitz) Olen; three sons, Joseph W. Olen and his wife, Catherine of Orlando, Florida, Stephen F. Olen and his wife, Katherine of Worcester and David M. Olen and his wife, Dawn of Holden; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
