RUTLAND – Neil D. McLellan, 85, formerly of Marlborough and Hubbardston, passed away at home peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, August 15, 2011.
He leaves his cherished wife of 65 years, Jeannette C. (Lucier) McLellan; four children, Dennis McLellan (deceased), Donna Woodward and husband Glenn of Raynham, Mary Ann Jordan and husband Dana of Barre and Dana McLellan and partner Susanne of Worcester; three grandchildren, Jessica Woodward, Alexis James and husband Nick all of Worcester and Brett Jordan of Barre; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Mason James; a brother, Charles McLellan of Marlborough; two sisters, Catherine Fitzpatrick and Florence McNiff both of Marlborough and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Donald and James McLellan and a sister, Christine Pappas, predeceased him.
Neil was born in Somerville, son of the late John and Florence (Chisholm) McLellan. He attended Marlborough schools before enlisting in the Marines in 1943 where he served in the South Pacific with the 4th Marine Division during World War II. Upon returning home from the war he married his sweetheart, Jeannette on Oct. 6, 1946, and began a career in carpentry. Mr. McLellan was a lifetime member of Carpenters Union Local 475. He was a construction foreman and superintendent for various companies in the Framingham/Boston area before retiring at the age of 80.
He was a devoted husband, father and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid outdoorsman.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 18th, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral for Neil will be held Friday, August 19th, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick's Church, 258 Main Street, Rutland. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlborough. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Care Hospice, Development Office, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608-1280 or to a charity of one's choice.
