HOLDEN - Nathaniel "Nat" Garret Tilander, 61, of Centennial, CO, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 20, 2014 after an illness. He was born and raised in Holden, the son of Conrad N. and Edna (Moroski) Tilander.
Nat graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1970. After graduating from Princeton University with a degree in mathematics, he worked briefly as a TV repairman and then returned to school to obtain his masters degree in geophysics at Indiana University. He was hired by Chevron Corp. directly out of college and worked as an exploration geophysicist for the next 31 years, during which time he traveled around the world managing new venture and appraisal projects in the Black Sea, Russia, China, Trinidad, Italy and elsewhere.
Nat presented numerous papers at international and intercompany conferences and published articles in the Leading Edge and Rocks & Minerals magazines. He authored 3 extensive volumes of The Multidimensional Guide to Science Fiction & Fantasy of the Twentieth Century which totaled more than 2000 pages and will be available online free of charge after the first anniversary of his death in April 2015. He was an accomplished pianist, performed with several R&B bands and wrote a book of poetry. In 2001, he produced a CD of original piano compositions entitled Hidden Trails and Other Compositions. He was an avid reader of science fiction.
Nat leaves his wife, Janet DeLauter Tilander of Centennial, CO; his daughter, Rebekah Raybuck and her husband, Drew of Walnut Creek, CA; his mother, Edna (Moroski) Tilander of Holden; his sister, Nina Keliher and her husband, Bill of Hallowell, ME; as well as many cousins.
