HOLDEN/WORCESTER – Nancy A. (Smith) Perkins, 77, of Mixter Rd., died peacefully at home in the presence of her loving family on Thursday, December 12, 2013, after an illness. Born and raised in Worcester, Nancy was the daughter of James and Ada (Bates) Smith and later raised her family in the Quinsigamond Village section of Worcester. She moved to Holden in 2005 to live with her daughter.
After graduating from Commerce High School in 1954, Nancy went to work for Dutch Made Clothing in Worcester and provided in-home demonstrations. In the 1970s, she went to work for the Worcester Public Schools as a secretary in the guidance department at South High School and later, 20 years at the Central Administration Building. She was a lifelong member of Quinsigamond United Methodist Church in Worcester.
Nancy enjoyed the company of others and looked forward to having lunch with her friends at their “Third Thursday of Month Club.” She was always planning an adventure with great anticipation either to Mohegan Sun, Atlantic City or a Caribbean cruise. After moving to Holden, you could find Nancy on her porch watching the hummingbirds that frequented her feeder or spending time with the family dog, “Kody.” She will be fondly remembered as a devoted mother and friend and for her kind and humbling nature.
She is survived and will be greatly missed by her daughters, Linda J. Goodrich and son-in-law, Christopher Galli with whom she lived and Kathy A. Rubaszko and her husband, Jay of Shrewsbury; and her grandson, John Robert Rubaszko.
Visiting hours for Nancy will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A funeral service honoring her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, at the funeral home.
