STERLING – Nancy P. Rezuke, 86, of Sterling, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2024 at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester after a brief illness.
Nancy was married in 1959 for 38 years to the late Edmund P. Rezuke who died in 1997. They had a son Peter E. Rezuke who died in 2013. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Susan (Sweryda) Rezuke of Pensacola, FL and a sister Elizabeth (Piirainen) Baer of Cummings, GA. She was predeceased by her siblings; Richard Piirainen, Robert Piirainen and Sandra (Piirainen) Wilga. Nancy also leaves many nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Nancy was born in Worcester, daughter to the late Carl and Edith (Holmberg) Piirainen.
Nancy was a 1956 graduate of Commerce High School in Worcester. She worked a number of jobs in her life starting as waitress in a soda shoppe, where she met her husband, a pizza shoppe, and the Worcester Small Business Association, just to name a few.
She enjoyed bingo, trips to the casino and was in bowling leagues throughout her life. Nancy was a skilled knitter, crocheter, needle point stitcher, and enjoyed tole painting and other crafts. She shared many of her creations with generations of her family who treasure her heirlooms.
The family would like to thank April Cooley and the More Than a Nurse staff for providing in-home care for Nancy in her final months. The family greatly appreciated their loving support and services.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Nancy’s family from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, on Saturday, March 16th at the Miles-Sterling Funeral & Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am at the funeral home, followed by burial at Hillside Cemetery in Sterling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Rezuke may be made to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
