STERLING – Nancy Elizabeth (Patterson) Doherty, 74, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 30, 2014 after a long illness. She was born on September 7, 1939, to John and Grace (MacAlpine) Patterson of Newton and graduated from Newton High School and Chandler Secretarial College as a medical secretary.

Nancy, with her husband, Norman, fostered more than 162 babies and children over 43 years, specializing in infants with complex medical conditions. She loved spending her summers in Shelburne, Nova Scotia with much loved family and friends and continued to do so. Nancy held marksmanship badges, took flying lessons, enjoyed sipping wine by the campfire and was able to travel to Mexico on a whale watch just last year, the highlight of which was touching the whales. In her spare time, Nancy loved reading, dancing and cooking for her large family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
