WORCESTER - Nancy Ann (McCormack) O'Connell, 91, passed away peacefully at the home she shared with her daughter on Sunday, March 12, 2023. She retained her playful spirit throughout her brief decline in health. She grew up in Cheshire, CT, the daughter of Robert and Ellen (Anderson) McCormack and lived most of her adult life in Worcester.
Her beloved husband of 54 years, Larry O'Connell, passed away in 2011. She leaves her daughters, Kerry O'Connell, with whom she lived in Worcester, and Lauren Martin (William) of Peterborough, NH; her sons, Tim O'Connell (Carole) and Brian O'Connell, of Neptune Beach, FL; and her three grandchildren, Daniel Martin (Colleen), Andrew Martin, and Matthew Martin. She was predeceased by her son, John O'Connell.
Nancy was a proud and loyal graduate of Trinity College in Washington, D.C., where her dear classmates became her lifelong sisters, and where she served as Class Scribe for over 65 years. After raising her family with love, faith, and a great sense of humor, she worked for many years at Sharfman's Jewelers, where she said she never "worked" a day in her life.
Nancy enjoyed many friendships through the Outdoor Sports Club, where she was a member for 25 years, the "Nana Club," and the "Panera Ladies Group." She made friends wherever she went including the RMV, the ice cream stand, and the grocery store. She volunteered at the Worcester Art Museum and, after undergoing three knee replacements, she coordinated the orthopedic surgery education class at UMass Memorial, where she gave hope to many approaching their own surgeries.
Nancy was a parishioner of Christ the King Church, having previously served as a lector at Blessed Sacrament Church.
Friends are invited to visit with Nancy's family at Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester on Saturday, March 18th beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Seven Hills Foundation, 81 Hope Ave., Worcester, MA 01603.
