Biography
WORCESTER - Nancy H. Hodes passed away at UMass Memorial Medical Center on November 21, 2016 after a brave battle with cancer for seven years. She leaves her husband of 57 years, Donald A Hodes, daughter, Karen Turk and her husband Jeffrey of Charlotte, North Carolina; son Adam Hodes and his wife Lisa of Westport Connecticut; and daughter Jennifer Reich and her husband Benjamin of River Vale, New Jersey; seven grandchildren: Emily and Diana Turk, Gillian, Lauren and Matthew Hodes, and Samuel and Mollie Reich; and a sister, Carol Woolf of Worcester.
Nancy was born in Boston, graduated from Newton High School and The University of Bridgeport with a BS in Education. Mrs. Hodes taught in the Paxton public schools was the Assistant Comptroller at Worcester Magazine and Comptroller for Don Hodes Advertising and Marketing Company.
Nancy was a Past Dean of the Boston Weavers’ Guild and accomplished weaver. She was active in many civic and philanthropic organizations including the Jewish Healthcare Center and Eisenberg Assisted Living. She was a member of Congregation Beth Israel and the Hudson Hoagland Foundation for Biomedical Research. Together with her husband, she was a top fundraiser for UMass Cancer Walk for many years. She was an avid gardener, known for her excellence in cooking and baking, and enjoyed travelling with her husband throughout the world.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 12:00 NOON ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 27TH AT CONGREGATION BETH ISRAEL, 15 JAMESBURY DRIVE, WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN. Burial will immediately follow at B’nai Brith Cemetery.
