Biography
RUTLAND – Nancy J. (Heebner) Congdon, 66, of Rutland, passed away peacefully in the presence and loving care of her family and the staff at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Worcester, Nancy was the daughter of Kenneth F. and Jean H. (Stockwell) Heebner, and lived 49 years in Rutland.
Nancy graduated from Burncoat Sr. High School in 1966. She worked for 30 years at Allmerica Life Assurance Co. in Worcester where she was a manager of the Life Operations Team. She later worked for Earle Johnson Florist in Holden, the Rutland Fire Department, and presently as the Assistant Tax Collector for the Town of Rutland.
She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Rutland, its Sunshine Circle, and volunteered on the Memorial Committee. She looked forward to family gatherings and vacationing at Skaket Beach in Orleans. Nancy enjoyed the company of others and cherished time spent with her family and friends. Her most notable qualities included her fierce loyalty, contagious sense of humor, wise counsel, and unwavering love. Her personal poise, simple elegance, grace, and selfless nature will be forever remembered by those who were blessed to have known her. She empathetically cared for others and will always be remembered for her ability to make people laugh. First and foremost, Nancy was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Nancy is survived by her two daughters, Suzanne L. Huard and her husband, Mark of Rutland and Cheryl D. Pearl of Hudson, New Hampshire; two brothers, Paul A. Heebner and his wife, Margery of Henderson, Nevada and David K. Heebner of Merrifield, Virginia; two sisters, Beth A. Kent and her husband, Paul of Brookfield and Wendy L. Rosazza and her husband, Tom of Ludlow; four grandchildren, Eric Huard, Molly and Isabelle Russell and Lily Pearl; an aunt and uncle, Sandy and Russell Stockwell of Orleans; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Nancy’s family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 14, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A funeral service honoring Nancy’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, at the First Congregational Church, 264 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland, followed by burial at Rural Cemetery, Rutland.
