Biography
STERLING – Myrtle E. (Eccleston) Ash, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Sterling Village. She was born in Rutland, the youngest child of the late Merrill and Edith (Dudley) Eccleston. In addition to her parents, Myrtle was predeceased by her three brothers; Ralph, Leonard and George and her three sisters, Bertha Haskell, Gladys Loomer and Emma Gray. Myrtle graduated from Oxford High School and worked inspecting shells for Parker and Harper during World War II. She met Chuck at a mixer and they were married in 1944. They lived in California for the next four year while Chuck was serving in the Navy and returned to Sterling, Massachusetts where they settled with their new family. They spent 10 years in Kansas before returning to Massachusetts in 1990. Myrtle and Chuck created a wonderful home on the Kristoff farm in Sterling where everyone pitched in to help out. Myrtle enjoyed being the caregiver and consummate homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, making sure there were always treats for the kids, especially her famous banana bread and peanut butter cookies that were her specialty. She enjoyed sharing her free time with the VFW while in Kansas, the Hiram Taylor American Legion Past Auxiliary and the Sterling Senior Center. She was a member of the Oakdale United Methodist Church in West Boylston, and attended the First Church in Sterling. Her beloved husband, Chuck died in 2003. Myrtle will be missed by her six children; Edith G. Koegel and her husband, Gerry of Marion, NC, Wesley C. Ash and his wife, Dana of Coconut Creek, FL, Jerry F. Ash and his wife, Sharon of Princeton, James Ash and his wife, Mary-Ellen of Sterling, Carla M. Aul and her husband, James of Pageland, SC and Robert P. Ash and his wife, Janice of West Boylston; her cherished 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Myrtle’s family on Tuesday, January 17, from 4-7 p.m. at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling. A funeral honoring her life will be held on Wednesday, January 18, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Hillside Cemetery, Sterling.
