Biography

WORCESTER - Myron (Mike) Ralph Laipson, 91, passed away on Friday, November 18, at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester, after a lengthy illness.
He leaves his beloved wife of 70 years, Hannah Karp Laipson, two daughters, Deborah Payne of Atlanta, GA and Ellen Laipson and her husband, Henri Barkey of Chevy Chase, MD; a son, Adam Laipson and his wife, Erin Williams of New Salem, MA; four grandchildren, Jonathan Payne and his wife, Ellen, Sam Payne, Eli Laipson-Williams, and Maya Barkey; and two great-grandchildren, Oliver Payne and Tessa Payne.
Myron was born and raised in Worcester, son of Maurice and Sara Vielya Laipson.  He graduated from Classical High School in 1942 and received his BS from University of Massachusetts in 1948.  He served from 1943-1946 as a Lieutenant JG in the United States Navy (Pacific area) on the USS War Hawk AP 168.
When he returned to Worcester, Myron became the president and treasurer of M. H. Laipson & Company, the family dairy processing and distribution business. From 1961 - 1965, he formed and financed the research and development company Fitzwater and Laipson, in Rhode Island, to design and build packaging machines for small dairies.  This business was purchased by American Can Co. in 1965.
He served as president of the New England Milk Dealers Association, the New England Ice Cream Manufacturers Association, and the Worcester Area Milk Dealers Association.
Active also in the Worcester community, Myron served as scoutmaster of Temple Emanuel Troop 36 and on the Board of Directors of the Worcester Institute for Senior Education at Assumption College. He was an active member of Temple Emanuel, the Jewish Community Center, B'nai B'rith, the International Executive Service Corps, and Common Cause.
Myron loved being on the ocean and spent many summer days enjoying his boats cruising the waters of southern New England. In retirement, he became engrossed in woodworking and accomplished in furniture-making.
Graveside Services will be held at the B’Nai Brith Cemetery, 55 St. Johns Road, Worcester on Monday, November 21 at 11 a.m. under the direction of Richard Perlman of Miles Funeral Home of Holden. Following the service a reception will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Willows, 101 Barry Road, Worcester, MA 01609.
