Myrna E. (Mckelvie) Watjus

July 8, 1933 — August 29, 2017

Biography

STERLING – Myrna E. (McKelvie) Watjus, a longtime Sterling resident and seamstress, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at Sterling Village.  She was born in Concord and raised in Acton, a daughter of Arthur and Mabel (Crosby) McKelvie.  Myrna attended Acton High School and was a graduate of the Trade High School for Girls in Boston.
Myrna was a gifted seamstress.  She shared her talents with local residents and will be remembered for creating beautiful wedding gowns for many young brides-to-be.  She was an avid quilter and rug braider and enjoyed gardening in her spare time.  Myrna loved entertaining friends and family in her home. Especially weekly Thursday night dinners with her two cherished grandchildren. Myrna and her husband travelled the world on many enjoyable vacations even excursions on her sons yacht. Those that knew her will always remember her as someone who was kind and campassionate to all. There was nothing not to like about Myrna. Myrna was a member of the First Church in Sterling, the Homemakers Extension Group and Sterling Grange.
She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her husband of 61 years, Robert M. Watjus; her son, Wayne R. Watjus and his wife, Carol of Raymond, NH; her daughter, Christine J. Hanrahan and her husband, Tim of Sterling: her two grandchildren, Kelsey and Colin Hanrahan; a sister, Leita Brown of Sterling; a brother, Kenneth McKelvie of Westford; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Myrna is predeceased by her sister, Catherine Sweet and three brothers, William McKelvie, Bruce McKelvie and Allen McKelvie.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Myrna’s family on Tuesday, September 5th from 10 am to 12 pm at the Miles – Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling.  A funeral service honoring her life will immediately follow at 12 pm. lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Joslin Diabetes Center at www.joslin.org/give or to Joslin Diabetes Center, Philanthropy Office, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
