HOLDEN - Muriel Lesieur Sawyer Harrington, 87, of Holden, passed away peacefully under the loving care of her family, friends and the staff at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester on Thursday, September 12, 2013. Her husband, former State Representative Edward D. Harrington, Jr., died in 1992.
Muriel was born in Worcester, daughter of Joseph O. and Hedwidge C. (Boucher) Lesieur, and lived most of her life in Holden until moving to Notre Dame du Lac in Worcester five years ago. She was a graduate of Holden High School and the Katharine Gibbs School in Boston. For many years she worked at the Medical School at Boston University and New England Deaconess Hospital. She retired in 1988 as Director of Alumni Affairs, University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, after 21 years of faithful and enjoyable service.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Jefferson and enjoyed bowling and animals, especially dogs.
Muriel is survived and will be greatly missed by her friend and Goddaughter, Mary Ann McGrain of Holden; four step-children, Janet E. Slabich of Paxton, Alison J. Johnston of Hampton, NH, Edward D. Harrington III of Westfield and James T. Harrington of Dartmouth; a sister, Edith Lemire of Worcester; 6 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Raymond and Roland Lesieur, and two sisters, Bernice Parker and Ursula Warren, predeceased her.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather for a calling hour from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a procession to St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson for an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. A committal service will be private in Grove Cemetery, Holden. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to NEADS/Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans, P.O.
