Biography
STERLING – Muriel E. Johnson, 80, of Sterling, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 11, 2014, under the loving care her family and the staff at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. Born in Holden and raised in Rutland, Muriel was the daughter of Harry C. and Olive J. (Hasselstrom) Johnson and lived 35 years in Sterling.
She leaves two sisters, Eunice C. Thompson and her husband, Ronald of Sterling and Nancy M. Graves and her husband, Tim of Barre; three brothers, Harry C. Johnson, Jr. of Rutland, Robert E. Johnson and his wife, Roselle of Denton, Texas and William L. Johnson of Rutland; several nephews and nieces; and great nephews and nieces. Muriel is predeceased by a sister, Grace Gullberg and a brother, Roger E. Johnson.
Muriel was beloved by her nephews and nieces and enjoyed spending time with them at family gatherings. She was kindhearted and will be remembered for her simple elegance and caring nature.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oakdale Nursing Home for all their love and patience toward Muriel.
A funeral service honoring Muriel’s life will be held privately at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Interment will be at Grove Cemetery in Holden. In Muriel’s memory, donations may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606 (
