RUTLAND – Phyllis M. (Anderson) Scales, 89, of 174 Main St., died Thursday, October 26, 2006 in UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester, after a short illness.
Her husband of 65 years, Albert F. Scales, Jr., died in January of 2005. She leaves her son, David C. Scales of Rutland; three daughters, Jean E. Bigelow and her husband Robert of Rutland, Lea Anne Kelley and her husband Timothy of Jefferson and Susan J. Liimatainen and her husband Gary of Rutland; a brother, Conrad Anderson of Maine; 10 grandchildren, Linda Hetu, Darren, Lynn and Brian Kelley, Jeffrey and Elizabeth Scales, Derek, Scott and Steven Liimatainen, Greg and his wife Klondie Liimatainen; 5 great-grandchildren, Jodi and Mark LaBoffa, Michael and Jamie Hetu, and Jacob Liimatainen; many nephews and nieces including Lee Brown. Two brothers, Alfred and Elbert Anderson and a sister, Matilda Fugere, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Carl and Jeanette (Ward) Anderson, and has lived in Rutland for over 60 years.
Mrs. Scales worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Scales Brothers Artesian Well Company in Rutland. She was a member and Deaconess of the First Congregational Church of Rutland and its Monday Night Club. She was also a member of the Rutland Grange, Rutland Historial Society, member and treasurer of the Rutland V.F.W. Auxillary and the Persis Rufus Putnam Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening, reading, music and animals.
The funeral service for Mrs. Scales will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 30, in the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery, 142 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Rutland, P.O. Box 484, Rutland, MA 01543; or Sweet Pea Friends of Rutland Animals, Inc., P.O. Box 897, Rutland, MA 01543.
