PAXTON – Rachel M. (Parker) Prentice, 85, of Paxton, died peacefully in her home on Monday, August 13, 2007.
Her husband of 60 years, Harrison “Hassie” Prentice, died on May 30th of this year. She leaves a sister, Miriam P. Fulford of Palestine, Texas; nephews and nieces including Donald, Richard and Kay Fulford all of Texas, Susan Murch of West Virginia, Donna Johnson of Maine, Marilou Barratt of Maryland, and Gail A. Belanger of Holden; several grandnephews and nieces; several great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; and many cousins. She was born in Worcester the daughter of Lucius W. and Alice M. (Briggs) Parker and lived most of her life in Paxton.
Mrs. Prentice, along with her husband, owned and operated H.H. Prentice Excavating Company in Paxton for 40 years. Previously, she worked for Norton Company and the U.S. Army Research and Development Command in Natick. She graduated from Commerce High School and Becker College both in Worcester. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Paxton and the Paxton Woman’s Club where she held several offices. She was a gifted artist, enjoyed oil painting, was a skilled knitter known for her Irish Knit Afghans.
A memorial service for Mrs. Prentice will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 25th, in the First Congregational Church, 1 Church Street, Paxton. Burial will be private in Mooreland Cemetery, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104-2396; or the First Congregational Church of Paxton, 1 Church Street, Paxton, MA 01612.
