HOLDEN – Elizabeth M. (Corcoran) Monaghan, 81, of Bullard St., died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, June 10, 2008.
Her husband, Christopher J. Monaghan, died in 1978. She leaves her daughter, Anne M. Kuncewicz and her husband Richard of Bellingham; three sons, Christopher E. Monaghan of Worcester, Peter T. Monaghan and his wife Melissa of Sterling, and Stephen J. Monaghan and his companion Lynne Townsend of Worcester; eight grandchildren, Marianne and Andrew Kuncewicz, Christopher, Conor, Kevin, Kelly, Thomas, and Kate Monaghan. She was born and raised in New York City, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Smith) Corcoran and has lived in Holden since 1966.
Mrs. Monaghan graduated from St. Vincent School of Nursing in New York City and was a registered nurse for the Holden District Hospital for 10 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. George's Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading the New York Times and completing its crossword puzzles.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 13th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral for Mrs. Monaghan will be held on Saturday, June 14th, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. George's Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Main Street (Rte. 122A) Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gale Free Library, 23 Highland Street, Holden, MA 01520.
