Miss Mary M. Kristoff

STERLING – Mary M. Kristoff, 74, of Greenland Road, died Friday, January 16, 2009 in UMass Memorial Healthcare, Worcester, after a brief illness.

She leaves her brother, John C. Kristoff of Sterling; two sisters, Catherine A. Beyer and Teresa A. Parker, both of Sterling; and several nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Christian M. Kristoff, Jr. and Joseph P. Kristoff, and a sister, Agnes J. Kristoff, all predeceased her. She was born and raised in Sterling, daughter of Christian M. and Catherine A. (Arkel) Kristoff, Sr., and lived 50 years in East Hartford, CT, before returning to Sterling 2005 years ago.

Mary was a graduate of Framingham State College and worked as a Home Economics Teacher for Hartford Public School System for over 40 years. She authored a book and audio tape on the process of becoming a U.S. Citizen and tutored many students within the Hartford area. Her lifelong passion was bringing literacy to the underprivileged. She was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church, The Red Hat Society and enjoyed arts and crafts.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. The funeral for Mary will be held on Wednesday, January 21st, from the funeral home with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Clinton Road (Rte. 62), Sterling. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Town of Sterling Fire Department, Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 515, Sterling, MA 01564.
