Biography
HUBBARDSTON / TEMPLETON - Michael David Thorpe, 31, formerly of Hubbardston, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016. Born in Worcester, Michael lived most of his life in Hubbardston until recently moving to Templeton.
Mike attended Hubbardston Schools and graduated from Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical High School in Fitchburg with a concentration in drafting and design. In 2002, he placed third in the Vocational Industrial Clubs of Americas New England’s Design and Drafting competition. Mike was a gifted artist and passionately embraced his creative nature though his drawings. Most of his career was spent designing high-end cabinetry and finish woodworking as a project manager at the former Iaccarino & Son Woodworking in Boylston.
He had a zest for life and enjoyed most outdoor activities including, four wheeling with his brother, snowboarding with friends at Wachusett Mountain, fishing and playing disk golf. While in high school, Mike attended the Worcester Music Academy and became versed in playing several instruments including his favorite, the guitar. Mike learned to be a humanitarian at a young age. He travelled with his family to Romania on three separate occasions to help those less fortunate. Mike’s biggest joy in life was spending time with his two sons. His love for them was immeasurable and their presence always brought a sense of peace and purpose to his life.
Mike is survived by his loving sons, Jake and Brody; his parents, Douglas G. and Sandra J. (Magnuson) Thorpe of Hubbardston; paternal grandparents, David and Marjorie Thorpe of Meredith Center, NH; a maternal grandmother, Barbara Apholt of Hubbardston; his brother, Sean R. Thorpe and his wife, Misty of Barre; his aunts, uncles and his male cousins that were much more like brothers (Chris, Cole, Cory, Kevin, Joshua, Elijah, Chase and Jaret) and the girls, Julie and Kim.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mike’s family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A graveside service honoring Mike’s life will be held privately at Glen Valley Cemetery in Barre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Herren Project
